Commodities Buzz: Global Sugar prices plunge to one-month low
Global Sugar prices continue to slide amid volatile crude oil prices. New York Raw sugar futures dipped around 2% to break under 14 cents per pound mark in last session. The counter tested around one-month lows following this as markets eyed rising sugar production in India. The sugar production in India in the 2025–26 season has seen 9.50% rise, due to ramping up in the sugar production by two states – Maharashtra and Karnataka, according to the Indian Sugar and Bio-Energy Manufacturers Association (ISMA). The sugar production in the 2025–26 season, as of the FY26 ended on March 31, has risen to 272.31 lakh tonnes, up from 248.78 lakh tonnes, compared to the last FY25. Sugar futures have lost around 10% this month, giving up bulk of their 12% gains in March.
