Maharashtra’s Budget for FY27 highlighted the push to the Urban infrastructure led growth in the state. The urban population in Maharashtra is set to be 70% by 2047 – contributing 75-80% to State GDP while Mumbai Metropolitan Region aims to grow economy from $140 billion to $300 billion by 2030. The government announced allotment of 130 acres of land for setting up a world class start up and innovation hub at Wadala. Master Plan for Development around Virar, Boisar and Thane Bullet Train Stations to take advantage of Bullet Train Project. Third Mumbai (Mumbai 3.0) will be developed around Atal Bihari Vajpayee Sewri-Nhava Sheva Setu area. Fourth Mumbai is planned to be developed near Vadhavan, Palghar district.
A Master Plan has been announced for redevelopment of housing of 20 lakh slum dwellers in Mumbai Metropolitan Region and development of 10 lakh affordable houses including rental housing. Pune, Nashik, Nagpur and Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar will be developed as Growth Hubs on the lines of Mumbai Metropolitan City. Further, a Master Plan for redevelopment of 20 lakh slum dwellings in MMR and development of 10 lakh affordable houses including rental houses has been announced. Development of No New Slum Framework using GIS based mapping will be initiated in Mumbai Metropolitan Region. The government also plans development of New Nagpur as a business and financial hub to boost the economic growth of Nagpur City. |
