| The UK's annual inflation rate dropped to 1.7% in September 2024, the lowest since April 2021, down from 2.2%. Transport costs, especially airfares and motor fuels, saw the largest decline (-2.2%). Petrol prices fell to 136.8 pence per litre, compared to 153.6 pence a year ago. Housing, utilities, and furniture prices also dropped, while recreation, culture, and restaurant costs rose at a slower pace. Services inflation eased to 4.9%, while food and non-alcoholic beverages slightly offset the decline with a 1.9% rise. |
